Today I’m talking with ‘Deej’ from the travel blog The World of Deej. Deej has a passion for good hotels, great food, and golf, which you will notice on his blog. I originally connected with Deej as we both have a passion for Hard Rock Cafes, and one day I’m hoping we can meet up in one.
Tell us a bit about yourself Deej.
I’m a 30 something lifelong Floridian with a passion for all things travel. I too have a mild obsession with Hard Rock Cafes, and have managed to visit 29 of them in my various adventures.
In your travels you opt for hotels rather than accommodation options like hostels, what do you think are the main advantages of hotels over hostels?
I’ve only stayed in two hostels, so it’s hard for me to make a fair comparison, but I’ll give it a try. The biggest thing I would have a hard time with in hostels is the diminished privacy. I need my own room, bath, TV, etc. I know you can get all of that in hostels, but then you may as well stay in a hotel. I have loved hotels since I was a kid, and spent several years in the business after college, so I’m a bit biased.
On your blog you talk about heading to golf clubs around the country, how long have you been interested in golf? And do you have a favourite course?
My family has a long history with the game of golf, with my granddad and great-granddad both having been professionals. In fact, I’m typing this at a golf resort where my family often traveled to see my grandfather play. I’ve played my entire life, and while I enjoy the sport, it is without a doubt the most frustrating game on the planet. As for a favorite course, I’ve been lucky to play at some great ones, but I’d have to choose the local muni just down the street from my house…
Another thing I noticed is your love for Disney, and visiting them, how long have you been interested?
Like many families, mine got me hooked on Disney at an early age. We made an annual trip every October, and they were some of the most memorable family vacations of my childhood. I’m still a Disney nut, and when I met another one, I decided to marry her.
You are a foodie, and blog about food (which I love), do you have a favourite food or place for food from anywhere in the world?
Well I have two favorite places. I already mentioned Hard Rock, but what I didn’t mention is that in somewhere around 100 visits to locations around the globe, I have ordered the same thing every..single..time. The Pig Sandwich, hold the Pig Slaw. They now call it the “Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich,” but I refuse to call it that. My other favorite place is a dive in Atlanta called The Varsity. Chili dogs, onion rings, and coca-cola that just simply tastes better there than anywhere in the world. If you’re in The ATL or passing through the airport – they have a location there – give it a try!
If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be? And why?
Singapore….It’s #1 on my bucket list, and hopefully I can scratch it off one day. Hard to pinpoint why I’m fascinated by the city, but it has been at the top of my list for a long time…
Thanks so much Deej for taking some time out to answer these questions, telling us more about you, and getting me excited and wanting to head to more Hard Rock Cafes

Thanks for being on it. And I agree, I’ve just got to try and get to that side of the world at some point
